Usage Policy

Untold is a free collection of history videos and animations and we encourage you to share our videos freely online for non-commercial purposes. However we also license our videos to selected third parties on commercial terms.

This Usage Policy outlines what you can do without a license and when you should talk to us about licensing our videos.

Commercial and Non-Commercial Uses

Commercial uses refers to using one or more of our videos or other materials in a commercial context. This could be:

  • in an educational app or subscription services,
  • on TV,
  • at events,
  • as part of a library service
  • in a digital textbook or other product (whether free or for sale)
  • making our videos available on a company intranet
  • or (in some cases) making them available on a school or district LMS system.

These uses require a license.

Non-commercial cases: Most personal uses are non-commercial, these would include things like sharing videos on your personal blog or social media accounts or use by individual teachers online or in a classroom environment. For non-commercial uses our videos can be used under a Creative Commons license – specifically Attribution–Non Commercial–No Derivatives. This means you can use our videos freely provided that you

  • Attribute: Make sure you mention Untold and link back to this website.
  • Don’t use them for any commercial purposes for example if you have advertising on your blog
  • Don’t change the video in any way
  • Don’t add any additional restrictions like asking people to register to access our video

 

Embedding video: For non-commercial use you can embed our videos using the Youtube embeddable player. For example, you might do this to share one of our videos on a free teacher resources platform. This is governed by Youtube Ts&Cs
